MERCER COUNTY, NJ — May 30, 2025 — The Jacob Swann car accident has left the South Jersey community in deep mourning after the Lenape High School senior tragically lost his life in a devastating car crash on Route 31 in Mercer County.

The fatal accident occurred around noon on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, on Route 31 between Titus Mill Road and Hopewell Pennington Road. According to investigators, 18-year-old Jacob Swann was riding in a Honda Civic when the vehicle veered out of its southbound lane and collided head-on with a northbound tractor trailer.
Swann and two of his classmates from Lenape High School in Burlington County were rushed to a nearby hospital. Tragically, Jacob Swann died from his injuries. The other two students remain hospitalized with serious injuries.

Jacob Swann was a 12th-grade student at Lenape High School and a member of the Class of 2025. He had recently made plans to attend The College of New Jersey after graduation. Community and School Reaction
Lenape High School Principal Tony Cattani shared a heartfelt statement:
“Our Lenape Family suffered a tragic loss today when one of our seniors was killed in an automobile accident. Two of the student’s friends, also members of the Class of 2025, were injured.”
Crisis counselors from the Burlington County Crisis Response Team were on campus the following day to provide emotional support to grieving students, staff, and families.
Fellow Students Remember Jacob Swann
Though many students didn’t know him personally, they said the atmosphere at school was heavy with grief.
“Walking into school, it was just a very sad and gloomy day,” said senior Derrick Hammond. “It was definitely a heartfelt impact on everybody.”
“Just him not being here to experience graduation—it’s very sad,” added senior Evan Gaddy.
Ongoing Investigation
